One third of the residents in the Bulgarian village of Sokolovo, which is in Dobrudja region, are Britons, informs the regional newspaper “Nova Dobrudjanska Tribuna”.
Оver 30 UK citizens have already settled in the beautifully painted houses, spread along the way between Dobrich and Balchik, around 7 km from the seaside.
There are Britons living in nearly all villages around Dobrich, comments the newspaper. The average price of the more modest newly constructed houses is 60-80 thousand euro, while the more luxurious village houses are worth 80-100 thousand euro. This price is enough to buy a 300 sq. m luxury house with a yard.
The Britons buying property in Dobrich region are mainly from the middle class or poorer. Brokers explain “The boom in Bulgaria now is the same as that in Spain some years ago. The Britons like Bulgaria's nature and climate as well as the fact that life here is cheaper compared to the one in their home country”.
The Englishmen are usually seeking cheap property regardless whether it need full or partial repair works. The houses closer to the sea are more expensive. A house on the territory of Shabla, Kavarna and Balchik municipalities costs over 28 thousand euro. At the same time houses close to the Romanian border cost 12-25 thousand euro.
80% of the Britons buy to invest but have no idea what to do with the property. 10% of the buyers are mainly elderly people who intend to come and live permanently in Bulgaria. Only 10% of the people buy property to resell it.
The Britons are usually seeking houses with land. Another requirement of theirs is the good infrastructure as well as if possible there to be no Roma people in the village.
Scandinavians are massively settling in the region of Kavarna. The village of Rogachevo, close to Dobritch town, is famous of being the place with the biggest Russian colony in Dobrich region. People from Rogachevo say that every second house in the village is possessed by a Russian. Many of the villagers make some money by taking care of the property of their Russian neighbors, who are coming only during the summer season.
